Cushing's Disease
Cushing's Disease is a condition caused by an excess of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. This excess usually results from a tumor in the pituitary gland, which signals the adrenal glands to produce more cortisol. Common symptoms include weight gain, especially around the abdomen and face, high blood pressure, and mood changes. Other effects can be thinning skin and increased susceptibility to infections. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests and imaging studies, and treatment may include surgery, medication, or radiation therapy to reduce cortisol levels and alleviate symptoms.
