Constellation (concept)

A constellation is a group of stars that form a recognizable pattern in the night sky, often representing animals, mythological figures, or objects. Humans have identified and named these patterns throughout history, helping with navigation and storytelling. There are 88 officially recognized constellations today, established by the International Astronomical Union. While the stars in a constellation might appear close together from our perspective on Earth, they can be far apart in space. Constellations serve as a way to organize the night sky and are essential for amateur astronomy and cultural traditions.
