Common Variable Immunodeficiency

Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) is a type of primary immunodeficiency disorder where the immune system doesn't produce enough antibodies. This results in an increased susceptibility to infections, particularly from bacteria and viruses. People with CVID may experience frequent respiratory infections and other illnesses. The exact cause is often unknown, but it can occur in anyone and is typically diagnosed in adulthood. Treatment usually involves regular infusions of immunoglobulin (antibodies) to help boost the immune response.
