Combatant Commands

Combatant Commands (CCMDs) are major organizational units in the U.S. military responsible for specific geographic areas or functional missions, such as special operations or transportation. Each CCMD is led by a four-star general or admiral and operates under the Department of Defense. Their primary role is to plan and conduct military operations, ensuring readiness and response capabilities in their designated regions. By having dedicated commands focused on distinct areas, the military can effectively manage resources, strategies, and responses to crises globally, enhancing national security and international stability.
