Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a giant statue that stood on the Greek island of Rhodes, built between 292 and 280 BC. It was created to celebrate Rhodes' victory over Cyprus. The statue depicted the sun god Helios and stood approximately 33 meters (108 feet) tall, making it one of the tallest statues of the ancient world. Constructed from bronze and stone, it symbolized security and prosperity for the city. Though it stood for only about 56 years before being toppled by an earthquake, the Colossus remains a famous example of ancient engineering and art, often regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
