Colloidal systems

Colloidal systems are mixtures where very small particles (ranging from 1 nanometer to 1 micrometer) are dispersed in a different substance, like a liquid or gas. These tiny particles remain suspended rather than settling out, preventing the mixture from separating easily. Common examples include milk (fat particles in water) and fog (water droplets in air). Colloids can exhibit unique properties, such as increased viscosity or opacity, due to the interaction between the dispersed particles and the medium. Understanding colloids is important in various fields, including chemistry, food science, and medicine.
