Coalition Provisional Authority
The Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) was a transitional government established by the United States and its allies in Iraq after the 2003 invasion that led to the fall of Saddam Hussein. Its main role was to administer Iraq, restore order, and rebuild the country’s infrastructure and institutions. The CPA aimed to create a democratic government and oversee the transition to Iraqi self-rule. It operated from April 2003 until June 2004, during which time it faced numerous challenges, including security issues and resistance from various groups within Iraq. The CPA was succeeded by an interim Iraqi government.
