Clostridium tetani

Clostridium tetani is a bacterium that causes tetanus, a serious infection affecting the nervous system. It produces a potent toxin that can lead to muscle stiffness and spasms, often starting in the jaw (hence the term "lockjaw"). The bacteria are commonly found in soil and animal feces and can enter the body through wounds. Tetanus is preventable through vaccination; a booster shot is recommended every ten years. Without prompt treatment, tetanus can be life-threatening, making awareness of the disease important, especially for those who are unvaccinated or insufficiently vaccinated.
