Christianization of Norway

The Christianization of Norway took place from the late 10th century to the 12th century, marking the transition from Norse paganism to Christianity. Initial efforts were led by Viking chieftains and missionaries, who sought to unify the kingdom and align with European powers. King Olaf I, in particular, played a crucial role by promoting Christianity and establishing churches. Over time, the new faith replaced older beliefs, influencing culture, politics, and social life. The process was gradual and often met with resistance, but by the end of the 12th century, Christianity was firmly established in Norwegian society.
