Norwegian Church
The Norwegian Church, or “Den Norske Kirke,” is the largest Christian denomination in Norway, historically Lutheran, and has served as both a religious and cultural institution since the Reformation. It functions as a state church, though it operates independently with its own clergy and governance. The church conducts religious services, rites such as baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals, and plays a role in community life and national traditions. While membership remains high, Norway is increasingly secular, and the church is separate from government functions, maintaining a significant cultural presence rooted in Norwegian heritage.
