Christianity in Norway
Christianity in Norway is predominantly represented by the Church of Norway, a Lutheran denomination that is part of the Evangelical Lutheran tradition. It was established as the state religion during the Reformation in the 16th century. While most Norwegians are baptized into the Church of Norway, church attendance is relatively low, and a growing number identify as non-religious. Norway promotes religious freedom, and various other Christian denominations, including Catholicism and Pentecostalism, are present. Christian holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, are widely celebrated and have cultural significance beyond their religious roots.
