Charles I of Spain, also known as Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire, ruled from 1516 to 1556. He was a significant figure in European history, presiding over a vast empire that included Spain, the Netherlands, and parts of Italy and the Americas. His reign was marked by major events such as the Protestant Reformation and the expansion of Spanish influence overseas. Charles was known for his efforts to maintain Catholicism and his struggles against Protestant movements. Ultimately, he abdicated in 1556, dividing his territories between his son, Philip II, and his brother, Ferdinand.
