Chanakya, also known as Kautilya, was an ancient Indian philosopher, economist, and statesman, active around the 4th century BCE. He is best known for his role in the establishment of the Maurya Empire by advising its first emperor, Chandragupta Maurya. Chanakya authored the "Arthashastra," a treatise on politics, economics, and military strategy, emphasizing statecraft, governance, and realpolitik. His teachings advocate for diplomacy and intelligence over brute force and showcase his deep understanding of human nature and leadership. He remains a significant figure in Indian history and is often regarded as a pioneer in political science and economics.
