Champaran Satyagraha
The Champaran Satyagraha was a peaceful protest in 1917 led by Mahatma Gandhi in India’s Champaran region. Indigo farmers were forced to grow indigo under oppressive conditions, facing unfair taxes and inhumane treatment. Gandhi organized the farmers to demand better rights and fair treatment without violence. His nonviolent resistance drew national attention and marked the start of India's larger independence movement. The protest successfully pressured authorities to improve conditions, making it a significant example of nonviolent civil disobedience in India’s struggle for freedom.
