Champaran

Champaran is a district in the Indian state of Bihar, historically significant for the Champaran Satyagraha of 1917. This was a pivotal nonviolent protest led by Mahatma Gandhi against the oppressive practices of British colonial rule, particularly the exploitation of indigo farmers by British planters. The farmers were forced to grow indigo on a portion of their land and faced unfair treatment.
