CBD (Convention on Biological Diversity)

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is an international treaty aimed at conserving the world's biological diversity, promoting sustainable use of its components, and ensuring fair sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources. Established in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, the CBD has three main goals: protecting ecosystems and species, supporting sustainable practices, and facilitating access to genetic resources while sharing benefits with countries and communities that provide them. By fostering cooperation and global action, the CBD seeks to safeguard the planet's rich variety of life for current and future generations.
