Carolingian Dynasty of Italy

The Carolingian Dynasty of Italy refers to a period during the late 8th and 9th centuries when the Carolingian family, notably Charlemagne, ruled over parts of Italy. This dynasty emerged from the earlier Merovingian rulers and is known for its significant influence on European history. Charlemagne unified much of Western Europe and was crowned Emperor by the Pope in 800 AD, marking the rebirth of the idea of a Roman Empire in the West. The dynasty’s legacy includes the promotion of learning, Christian culture, and administrative reforms, which shaped the future of Europe and laid the groundwork for the Holy Roman Empire.
