Camillo di Cavour (1810-1861) was an influential Italian statesman and a key figure in the movement for Italian unification, known as the Risorgimento. As the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sardinia, he worked to modernize the economy and strengthen the military. Cavour played a pivotal role in diplomatic efforts, forming alliances, notably with France, to drive out foreign powers from Italy. His political acumen and vision for a unified Italy laid the groundwork for the eventual establishment of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861, marking a significant moment in European history.
