C-reactive Protein
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a substance produced by the liver in response to inflammation. When the body experiences infection, injury, or chronic disease, CRP levels rise as part of the immune response. It is often measured in blood tests to help assess whether there is an inflammatory condition or to monitor the progress of some diseases. High CRP levels can indicate various health issues, including infections and autoimmune disorders, but they are not specific to any one condition. Thus, doctors use CRP levels alongside other tests and clinical evaluations to diagnose and manage health problems.
