Brehon laws
Brehon laws were the ancient legal system of Ireland, in place from around the 6th century until the 17th century. Named after the "brehons," or judges, who interpreted them, these laws focused on resolving disputes fairly, often through compensation rather than punishment. They covered various aspects of life, including property rights, marriage, and social obligations. Brehon laws emphasized community involvement and restorative justice, with an aim to maintain peace and balance in society. They reflect a unique legal tradition that valued customary practices and local customs over centralized authority.
