Boston Tea Party

The Boston Tea Party was a protest that took place on December 16, 1773, in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists, frustrated by British taxation without representation, especially the Tea Act, which granted a monopoly to the British East India Company, disguised themselves as Native Americans and dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. This act of defiance against British rule escalated tensions leading up to the American Revolution. It symbolized the colonists' resistance to oppressive taxation and their demand for greater self-governance. The Boston Tea Party remains a significant event in the history of American democracy.
