Bogen's contributions to split-brain studies
Joseph Bogen made significant contributions to split-brain research by investigating the effects of severing the corpus callosum, the brain's main communication pathway between its two hemispheres. This procedure was often performed to alleviate severe epilepsy. Bogen's studies highlighted how each hemisphere processes information differently and may exhibit unique behaviors and responses. He discovered that the left hemisphere typically handles language and verbal tasks, while the right hemisphere is better at spatial and visual tasks. His work enhanced our understanding of lateralization in the brain and how each hemisphere contributes to human cognition and behavior.
