Bhudan Movement
The Bhoodan Movement, initiated by Vinoba Bhave in 1951 in India, sought to promote land reform by encouraging landowners to voluntarily donate a portion of their land to address rural poverty. Bhave embarked on a walking campaign, appealing to wealthier landowners’ sense of social responsibility. The movement aimed to redistribute land to landless farmers, thereby fostering equality and improving livelihoods. Although it gained significant attention and support, the overall impact on land distribution was limited. Nonetheless, it highlighted issues of land ownership and inspired later land reform efforts in India.
