Benigno Aquino III, often called Noynoy, was the 15th President of the Philippines, serving from 2010 to 2016. Born on February 8, 1960, he is the son of former President Corazon Aquino and assassinated opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr. His presidency focused on anti-corruption, economic growth, and improving government transparency. He is known for the “Daang Matuwid” (Straight Path) governance program. During his term, the Philippines experienced significant economic progress and was noted for winning a landmark arbitration case against China regarding territorial disputes in the South China Sea. Aquino passed away on June 24, 2021.
