Bartholomew's Night

Bartholomew's Night, or the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, refers to the violent events that occurred in France from August 24 to 30, 1572. It began with the assassination of a prominent Huguenot leader during a wedding between the Catholic Marguerite de Valois and the Protestant Henry of Navarre, aiming to promote peace. Following this, thousands of Huguenots (French Protestants) were killed by Catholics in Paris and beyond. The massacre deepened the religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants in France, marking a significant and tragic moment in the French Wars of Religion and European history.
