Bali Nine
The Bali Nine refers to a group of nine Australian nationals who were arrested in 2005 for attempting to smuggle heroin from Indonesia to Australia. They were apprehended at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport with over eight kilograms of the drug. The case drew significant media attention and highlighted the severe penalties for drug trafficking in Indonesia, including the death penalty. Over the years, some members of the group received lengthy prison sentences, while others, including two, were executed by firing squad in 2015, raising debates about drug laws and international justice.
