Bag-Valve-Mask
A Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) is a medical device used to provide artificial ventilation to individuals who are not breathing or breathing inadequately. It consists of a flexible bag that can be squeezed to deliver air, a one-way valve to prevent backflow, and a mask that fits over the patient’s nose and mouth. When the bag is squeezed, air is pushed into the lungs, helping to ensure that the person receives enough oxygen. BVMs are often used by emergency responders in critical situations, like cardiac arrest or respiratory failure, to support breathing until advanced medical assistance is available.
