Autoantibodies
Autoantibodies are proteins produced by the immune system that mistakenly target and attack the body's own cells and tissues, thinking they are foreign invaders. Normally, the immune system defends against harmful substances like bacteria and viruses. However, in some cases, it can become confused and produce autoantibodies, leading to autoimmune diseases. These conditions can cause inflammation and damage to various organs, resulting in symptoms like joint pain, fatigue, or skin problems. Common autoimmune diseases associated with autoantibodies include lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis.
