Atonic uterus
Atonic uterus refers to a condition where the uterus fails to contract effectively after childbirth. This can lead to excessive bleeding, known as postpartum hemorrhage. Normally, after delivery, the uterus contracts to help reduce the size and stop bleeding. However, if the muscles are weak or don't respond properly, this contraction doesn't happen. Factors such as prolonged labor, overdistention from a large baby or multiple births, and certain medications can contribute to this condition. Timely medical intervention is crucial to manage the situation and ensure the mother's health and recovery.
