Assadism

Assadism refers to the political ideology and practices of the Assad family, which has ruled Syria since the 1970s. It emphasizes authoritarian governance, state control over various aspects of society, and a strong military presence. The regime promotes nationalism and has often used sectarianism to maintain power, primarily relying on support from the Alawite sect, a minority in Syria. Under Bashar al-Assad, the state has also been marked by repression of dissent, heavy censorship, and the use of violence against opposition, especially during the Syrian Civil War that began in 2011.
