ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights
The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) is a regional body established by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2009. Its main purpose is to promote and protect human rights across ASEAN member states, which include countries like Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. AICHR provides a platform for dialogue about human rights issues, develops strategies, and encourages member countries to enhance their human rights standards. However, it operates within the framework of respect for state sovereignty, which can limit its effectiveness in addressing serious human rights violations.
