Arithmetic Mean
The arithmetic mean, often referred to as the average, is a basic statistical measure used to summarize a set of numbers. To find the arithmetic mean, you add up all the numbers in a group and then divide that total by the count of numbers in the group. For example, if you have the numbers 2, 3, and 5, you add them to get 10, then divide by 3 (the number of values), resulting in an average of 3.33. It provides a quick way to understand the central tendency of data in various contexts, from test scores to financial data.
