Archaic Sculpture
Archaic sculpture refers to a style of art from ancient Greece, roughly spanning from 800 to 500 BCE. During this period, artists began to create more naturalistic representations of the human form, moving away from earlier, more rigid and abstract styles. Notable features of Archaic sculptures include the "kouros" (male figures) and "kore" (female figures), characterized by a stance known as "frontal," with elaborate hairstyles and stylized facial expressions. This era laid the foundation for the classical Greek art that followed, emphasizing beauty, proportion, and the human experience.
