Arboviral diseases
Arboviral diseases are illnesses caused by viruses that are transmitted through insect bites, primarily mosquitoes and ticks. Common examples include dengue fever, Zika virus, and West Nile virus. These diseases can lead to symptoms ranging from mild flu-like signs to severe neurological issues. The term "arboviral" comes from "arthropod-borne virus," reflecting the role of arthropods in spreading these viruses. Prevention focuses on reducing insect bites through repellents, protective clothing, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed. Public health efforts also aim to control insect populations to lessen the risk of disease outbreaks.
