Arakkal Kingdom
The Arakkal Kingdom was a prominent princely state located in the Malabar region of present-day Kerala, India, particularly around the area of Kannur. Established in the 12th century, it was notable for being the only Muslim kingdom in Kerala. The Arakkal family played a crucial role in trade, especially in spices, and maintained influence over maritime activities. The kingdom had a complex relationship with local rulers and colonial powers, including the Portuguese and the British. The last ruler, Ali Raza II, faced challenges in the 20th century, leading to the kingdom’s decline and eventual integration into India post-independence.
