Sultanate of Arakkal

The Sultanate of Arakkal was a unique Muslim royal family and political system in parts of present-day Kerala, India, from the 18th to early 20th century. It was ruled by the Arakkal family, who held both religious and administrative authority, particularly over the Arakkal Kingdom and its maritime territories. The Arakkal rulers, known as Arakkal Ali, managed local governance, military, and religious duties, maintaining a balance of power within the community. The sultanate is notable for its role in regional trade, cultural integration, and for being one of the few Muslim dynasties in India with a recognized government structure.
