Appeals Modernization Act
The Appeals Modernization Act (AMA), enacted in 2017, reformed how veterans appeal decisions made by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regarding benefits claims. It introduced a more streamlined process with three distinct appeal lanes: the Higher-Level Review, the Supplemental Claim, and the Board Appeal. This allows veterans to choose how to appeal a decision based on their needs. The goal of the AMA is to reduce the backlog of claims and provide faster, clearer outcomes, ensuring veterans receive the benefits they deserve in a more efficient manner.
