Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention

The Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, also known as the Ottawa Treaty, is an international treaty aimed at prohibiting the use, production, stockpiling, and transfer of anti-personnel mines. Adopted in 1997, it seeks to eliminate these weapons due to their devastating impact on civilians, as mines remain dangerous long after conflicts end. As of October 2023, over 160 countries are party to the treaty, demonstrating a global commitment to reducing harm from such explosives and supporting affected communities through clearance efforts and victim assistance programs.
