Cluster Munitions
Cluster munitions are weapon systems that release multiple smaller submunitions or bombs over a wide area, intended to target several objects or areas simultaneously. They are often used in military operations to cover large zones quickly. However, many submunitions fail to explode upon impact, remaining as dangerous unexploded ordnance that can harm civilians long after a conflict ends. Due to their potential for causing unintended harm and civilian casualties, the use, transfer, and stockpiling of cluster munitions are restricted or prohibited under international agreements like the Convention on Cluster Munitions.
