
Anagarika Dharmapala
Anagarika Dharmapala (1864-1933) was a prominent Sri Lankan Buddhist reformer and scholar who played a key role in reviving Buddhism in Sri Lanka and promoting it globally. He emphasized the importance of Buddhist education, culture, and ethics, opposing colonial influences that threatened traditional practices. Dharmapala founded the Mahabodhi Society to support Buddhist education and establish temples, particularly in India. His advocacy for social reform and interfaith dialogue contributed to a greater understanding of Buddhism in the West. He is celebrated as a pioneer of modern Buddhist activism and played a significant role in the Buddhist revival movement of the early 20th century.
