Ammut (mythological creature)
Ammut is a mythological creature from ancient Egyptian mythology, often depicted as a hybrid of a crocodile, lion, and hippopotamus. Known as the "Devourer of the Dead," Ammut resided in the Hall of Maat, where she would consume the souls of the wicked. During the weighing of the heart ceremony, a deceased person's heart was measured against the feather of Maat, representing truth. If the heart was heavier due to sin, Ammut would devour it, leading to the person's eternal fate of non-existence. Thus, she symbolized the consequences of wrongdoing in the afterlife.
