amblyopia

Amblyopia, commonly called "lazy eye," is a condition where one eye develops weaker vision compared to the other, often due to poor coordination between the eyes during childhood. It occurs when the brain favors one eye over the other, leading the less-used eye to not develop normal vision. Causes can include unequal focus, misalignment of the eyes, or differences in vision sharpness. If untreated early, amblyopia can result in permanent vision loss in the weaker eye. Treatment typically involves glasses, eye patches, or therapy to encourage proper use and strengthen the weaker eye.
