Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation

Allogeneic stem cell transplantation is a medical procedure used to treat certain blood disorders, like leukemia or lymphoma. In this process, healthy stem cells from a donor—often a family member or an unrelated match—are infused into a patient whose own bone marrow is damaged or diseased. These donor stem cells help rebuild the patient’s blood and immune system. The goal is to provide new, healthy blood cells that can fight off illness, but it comes with risks, including the possibility of the donor's immune cells attacking the patient's body, known as graft-versus-host disease.
