Alfred the Great

Alfred the Great (c. 849-899) was a King of Wessex, a kingdom in what is now England. He is renowned for his leadership during the Viking invasions, effectively defending his realm and promoting education and legal reform. Alfred was also instrumental in unifying various Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, laying the groundwork for modern England. He encouraged the translation of important texts into Old English, making knowledge more accessible.
