Aghlabids

The Aghlabids were a Muslim dynasty that ruled parts of North Africa, particularly Tunisia and eastern Algeria, from the 9th to 10th centuries. Founded by Ibrahim al-Aghlabi, they were known for their cultural and economic development, including the establishment of the city of Kairouan as a religious and cultural center. The Aghlabids strengthened trade and maritime activities in the Mediterranean and contributed significantly to Islamic architecture and literature. They were eventually integrated into the larger Abbasid Caliphate, but their legacy influenced the region's history and culture significantly.
