Afghan Parliament
The Afghan Parliament, known as the National Assembly, is Afghanistan's legislative body responsible for making and passing laws. It consists of two chambers: the Wolesi Jirga (House of Representatives) and the Meshrano Jirga (House of Elders). Members of the Wolesi Jirga are directly elected by the public, while the Meshrano Jirga includes appointed and indirectly elected representatives from provincial councils. The Parliament plays a crucial role in shaping government policies, approving budgets, and overseeing the executive branch. Its effectiveness has varied greatly due to political instability, conflict, and challenges in governance in Afghanistan.
