Adsorption

Adsorption is a process where certain molecules, called adsorbates, stick to the surface of a solid or liquid, known as the adsorbent. Unlike absorption, where a substance diffuses into another, adsorption involves molecules clinging to the surface. This process is driven by interactions such as Van der Waals forces or chemical bonds. Adsorption is commonly used in water purification, air filters, and industrial processes to remove impurities or separate substances. It’s an efficient way to capture and hold molecules on a surface without them penetrating into the interior of the material.
