ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone)

ACTH, or Adrenocorticotropic Hormone, is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. Its main role is to stimulate the adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys, to produce and release cortisol. Cortisol helps regulate various functions such as blood sugar, inflammation, immune response, and stress management. ACTH levels can fluctuate based on the body’s needs, like during stress or in response to hormone feedback systems. Abnormal levels may indicate issues with the pituitary, adrenal glands, or overall hormone balance, which can lead to health conditions like Addison’s disease or Cushing’s syndrome.
