1971 Liberation War
The 1971 Liberation War was a conflict in what was then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, aimed at gaining independence from West Pakistan (now Pakistan). Tensions arose from cultural, economic, and political disparities, leading to widespread demands for autonomy. In March 1971, the Bangladesh Liberation movement escalated with a brutal crackdown by the Pakistani military. This prompted a resistance movement and armed struggle supported by India. After months of fighting, on December 16, 1971, Bangladesh achieved independence, significantly altering the political landscape in South Asia and reflecting the desire for self-determination and national identity.
