1932 Poona Pact
The 1932 Poona Pact was an agreement between Indian leaders Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during British colonial rule. It aimed to address the representation of the "untouchable" Dalit community in legislative bodies. Initially, the British plan provided separate electorates for Dalits, which Gandhi opposed, fearing it would deepen divisions. The pact established that Dalits would be granted reserved seats in a joint electorate, allowing them to vote alongside others while ensuring adequate representation. This agreement was significant for promoting social justice and unity among different communities in India during the freedom struggle.
